About Mrs. Ellington

Hello! Thanks so much for stopping by my page!

My name is Heather Ellington and I am currently a high school visual and digital art teacher at Grimsley High School (Go Whirlies!) in Guilford County, NC. Prior to my time at Grimsley, I spent almost a decade at Kiser Middle School teaching Visual and Digital Art. I graduated in 2013 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education K-12 and a concentration in Graphic Design and Photography. I jumped straight into teaching shortly after graduation!

I have worked professionally as a Graphic Designer for Simply Southern in which I was an illustrator, photographer, videographer, web developer, and social media coordinator! My professional teaching career started at Kiser Middle School where I served grades 6-8th in Graphic Design. During my time at Kiser Middle, I developed and implemented the only Graphic Design program of its kind in the state of North Carolina.

The curriculum I designed and implemented at Kiser was the only program of it's kind in the State using $35.00 computers and open-source software. Kiser and the Digital Art Program have provided me with so many amazing opportunities to speak at our NCAEA Conventions on Adobe Alternatives in the classroom, present at a National Art Education Conference in 2023, as well as serving the Lead Visual Arts Teacher for Secondary Education within Guilford County Schools in which my role was not only support but implementing Professional Development for teachers. My proudest moment was in 2017 when I was recognized as Guilford County's Art Educator of the Year which I owe all to my amazing students. Anyone who has met me knows my passion for education and spreading the love for learning and creativity everywhere I go. Not to mention my joy for the smallest of green creatures, Grogu!

When I am not teaching, I am an avid equestrian and video gamer! I am married with three amazing fur children! Maggie and Winston are our very spoiled dogs and a rotund cat, Smokey!
